Save the planet. The eco-sustainable market is expanding more and more and every day the percentage of consumers who are looking for products with a “green” soul grows. The fashion industry is one of the main global players in this regard; in the last twenty years it has invested heavily in an eco-friendly, responsible, ethical or sustainable type of production; the real motivations behind this choice are of little importance. What really matters is that more and more brands are attentive to the protection of the planet and to the health of people. In this regard we have selected a series of eco-friendly sportswear products to wear this spring.
Among these are the glueless sneakers by Stella McCartney, undoubtedly the most attentive designer to this type of problem. Its glue-free and non-toxic trainers fully reflect the brand’s philosophy: they are made of completely recyclable materials. Remaining in theme shoes those with the lacing of mountain boots Timberland (which about ten years ago launched the line Earthkeepers) are made from recycled materials and proposed in different colors.
We can not fail to mention adidas and one of its best sellers, the UltraBOOST Parley, shoes designed to make people aware of the pollution of the oceans. The upper has been created using about 11 plastic bottles, while laces, reinforcement on the heel and lining of the insole are made of recycled PET. Even North Sails has the ocean at heart and in partnership with OFF (Ocean Family Foundation) launches the “Free The Sea” capsule collection in Recover Blue, a new innovative fabric made with recycled cotton and PET bottles. If you love running you could combine them with the Patagonia technical t-shirt made of 100% recycled polyester with Fair Trade certified stitching (a project whereby Patagonia donates a portion of the product’s revenue to the workers who created it to improve their living conditions) or signed H&M Conscious with camouflage print, also made of recycled polyester. If instead you are a golf enthusiast, you should know that many Chervò products carry the ECO-SAFE seal of guarantee which distinguishes items of clothing with fibers certified by Ecolabel, an eco-label of the European Union.
Another brand that has always been close to environmental issues is exemplary; his electric blue jacket is made of repet nylon, fabric obtained giving a new life to 10 recycled plastic bottles. Water repellent, with super light padding Thermore is perfect in case of rain as well as the Fjallraven raincoat in Eco-Shell, a 3-layer eco-friendly and 100% recyclable fabric. Finally, a colorful accessory to wear on vacation or in the city: the backpack by Vivienne Westwood. It is part of the new Ethical Africa Bags collection for Spring / Summer 2018 made in Nairobi and produced in collaboration with the Ethical Fashion Initiative of the International Trade Center. All products are created by local artisans using recycled materials such as coffee bags, boat sails, road banners and recovered metals. Finally, for those who ride a bike, the Spanish brand Ecoalf – among the pioneers in the reuse of waste found at sea for the construction of a guardrail – has created with Closca a special folding, portable and minimal helmet created by the recycling of fishing nets.
